Videographer Q&A

Me - Insta Approved.jpg

Last week I had the opportunity to do a Live Q&A on Instagram with none other than Greta Tucker. It was an amazing experience that helped put things in perspective for potential clients, and even myself. I took the time before our Q&A to reach out to a few local videographers to ask them “What are some things that you might want people to know about videography or videographers?” The response I got back was overwhelming. I used that in my chat with Greta to help educate folks on some of the things we videographers would want YOU, the client, to know.

Just in case you missed it, here's an overview…

I will start with one of the Questions asked from Greta: “Should you have a videographer…” YES! I have never met anyone who had a videographer and regretted it. However, I cannot tell you how many times I have met folks who wished that they had a videographer at their event. It is so easy to have so many expenses at a wedding and figuring out what things are most important is key. I truly believe that videography should be one of them.

“How much is the average investment for a videographer?” In the New England area, from the videographers I have chatted with and admire the price range starts around 4k and then goes up from there. Most often your average investment will be 5kish.

I feel like some of you might be thinking “WHOAAAA! Thats a lot, why is it so expensive?” A LOT and I mean A LOT of work goes into videography. There is so much done, not just on the day of but in post production. If you have long ceremony edits, color correcting, picking out music, audio for speeches, etc. There is a very long list of the countless hours that goes into creating your memories so to speak. I think that most often that is underestimated.

“What can you expect to get from your investment?” Everyone is different. Some videographers will offer just you 3-15 minute highlight film (everyones average highlight film varies in length). A set amount of hours for coverage will be included as well. Then there are additional things such as your ceremony from start to finish, maybe your speeches, first dance or maybe aerial coverage. Any of those can be included or added on depending on the videographer you choose and the packages they offer.

“Can you pick the song” There is a lot that goes into song choice for myself. I love getting to know the couple and figuring out which song fits them, their day etc. There is certain licensing that is needed for songs so most ofter you won’t hear Ed Sheeran or Cold Play and if you do you should watch out for copyright use.

“When should I reach out to my videographer” ASAP! It is February and I am pretty much fully booked for the 2020 season and I already have brides for 2021. Book your videographer when you book your photographer. I cannot stress the importance of having your wedding/event captured on film. It isn’t something that should be added on later, or last minute. It should be something that you know you want right away. As important as your photographer, caterer, and venue.

That covers what to me is the most important information of the live Q&A. If you'd like to see the full interview please find me on Instagram @rebeccadrouin_ Don't wait to add on videography - if you want, get it - you need it, trust me, you won't regret it.
